When to sign a PDF online
Most everyday paperwork now arrives as a PDF: rental agreements, job offers, freelance contracts, school permission slips, delivery confirmations, NDAs and invoices that need approval. Printing a document, signing it with a pen, scanning it and emailing it back takes ten minutes and a printer most people no longer own. Adding your signature directly to the PDF takes under a minute and produces a cleaner, more legible file.
Because all in tool runs entirely in your browser, it is also a sensible choice for sensitive documents. Contracts often contain your address, salary, bank details or identity numbers. Many free signing websites upload the file to their servers and keep a copy; here the document is never transmitted, so there is no third party holding your agreement.
Three ways to create your signature
Draw: sign with a mouse, a trackpad, a stylus or your finger on a phone. Write slowly and use most of the drawing area — the signature is saved at high resolution and scaled down, so a large, relaxed signature looks more natural than a small, cramped one. If you don't like the result, press Clear and try again; nothing is added to the PDF until you click Sign PDF.
Type: enter your full name and it is rendered in a handwriting-style font. This is popular for quick approvals and is accepted by many organisations as a typed electronic signature. Upload: if you already have a scanned signature, upload it as a PNG with a transparent background for the most professional look. A JPG works too, but it will carry a white rectangle behind the ink.
Placing the signature precisely
Type the page number (the tool starts on the last page, where signature lines usually are), then click on the page preview exactly where the middle of your signature should sit. A dashed outline shows the position, and the size slider controls the width as a percentage of the page. Around 25–35% is typical for a signature line on an A4 or US Letter page; initials usually look right at 10–15%.
Need to sign several pages or add initials to each page? Sign once, download the file, then load the signed PDF again and repeat on the next page. Each pass keeps everything you added before.
Is an electronic signature legally binding?
In the United States the ESIGN Act and UETA give electronic signatures the same legal standing as handwritten ones for most commercial and personal agreements. In the European Union, eIDAS recognises a simple electronic signature — which includes an image of your signature added to a PDF — as admissible evidence, and in the UK electronic signatures are widely accepted under common law. What matters most is that the signer intended to sign and that both parties agree to do business electronically.
There are important exceptions. Wills, some property and real-estate documents, court filings, notarised documents and certain government forms may require a wet ink signature, a witness or a qualified digital signature backed by a certificate. This tool places a visual signature on the page; it does not attach a cryptographic certificate. If the stakes are high, confirm with the recipient or a legal professional which kind of signature they require. This page is general information, not legal advice.
Troubleshooting
If the PDF won't load, it may be protected with an opening password — open it in your PDF viewer, enter the password and save an unlocked copy. If the signature appears in a slightly different spot than in the preview, check whether the page was scanned sideways; rotate the document with Rotate PDF first so the page is upright, then sign. Signing a PDF that already contains a certified digital signature will invalidate that certificate, because any change to the file breaks it — this is expected behaviour, not a fault.
Where your contract and signature are processed
Your PDF is opened, previewed and signed on your own device. The page preview is drawn by your browser, and the signature you draw, type or upload is turned into an image and added to the PDF right there. Your document and signature are never sent to all in tool or anyone else, and we don't keep a copy of your signature for later use.
Because nothing is uploaded, there is nothing to delete on a server. Your file only exists in this browser tab's memory while you work. It is cleared as soon as you press the × next to the file, reload the page or close the tab. We do not use cookies, local storage or any other browser storage to keep your files. The only lasting copy is the one you download, which is saved to your own device.
How your files stay private
Most online converters upload your file to a server, process it there and send it back. all in tool works differently: the processing code is downloaded to your browser and runs on your own device. Your file is read from your disk into memory, transformed, and handed back to you as a download. It is never sent over the network, so there is nothing for us — or anyone else — to store, read or leak.
You can confirm this yourself: once the page has loaded, you can disconnect from the internet and the tool keeps working. This also means speed depends on your device rather than your connection, which is usually much faster for large files.
