How to use Compress Image

  1. 1Add one or more images.
  2. 2Adjust the quality slider.
  3. 3Download each image or all of them as a ZIP.

Why compress images

Photos from modern phones are often several megabytes each. Compressing them makes emails send faster, saves storage, and — for website owners — makes pages load quicker, which improves both visitor experience and search rankings.

Lossy vs. lossless

JPG and WebP use lossy compression: they discard detail that the eye barely notices. At quality settings around 70–80% most photos look identical to the original at a fraction of the size. PNG is lossless, which is ideal for screenshots, logos and graphics with sharp edges, but it produces large files for photos.

If a PNG photo stays large after compression, converting it to JPG or WebP with Convert Image usually gives a much bigger saving.

Choosing a quality setting

Start around 75% and compare the preview with the original. Lower the setting until you notice blockiness or smeared detail, then go back up a step. If you need the file below a specific size, use Compress Image to KB instead.

How your files stay private

Most online converters upload your file to a server, process it there and send it back. all in tool works differently: the processing code is downloaded to your browser and runs on your own device. Your file is read from your disk into memory, transformed, and handed back to you as a download. It is never sent over the network, so there is nothing for us — or anyone else — to store, read or leak.

You can confirm this yourself: once the page has loaded, you can disconnect from the internet and the tool keeps working. This also means speed depends on your device rather than your connection, which is usually much faster for large files.
