How to use MP3 Converter & Compressor

  1. 1Choose an audio file.
  2. 2Pick a bitrate — lower means smaller.
  3. 3Convert and download the MP3.

Step by step: converting to MP3

Choose an audio file — WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, FLAC, Opus, or even the soundtrack of an MP4 or WebM video. Pick a bitrate, click Convert to MP3, listen to the preview, then download. Everything happens on your device, so a long recording only takes as long as your computer or phone needs to encode it.

Choosing the right bitrate

Bitrate decides how much data is used for each second of sound. 64 kbps is fine for voice memos, lectures and podcasts where clarity matters more than richness. 128 kbps is a good balance for most music and is what many streaming previews use. 192 kbps keeps more detail in cymbals, strings and complex mixes, and is the best choice when you want music to sound close to the original.

As a rule of thumb, one minute of stereo audio is roughly 0.5 MB at 64 kbps, 1 MB at 128 kbps and 1.4 MB at 192 kbps.

Quality tips and limitations

MP3 is lossy, so converting can only keep or lose quality — never add it. Converting a low-quality MP3 to a higher bitrate makes the file bigger without making it sound better. For the best result, always start from the highest-quality source you have, such as a WAV or FLAC file.

Files with more than two channels (surround sound) are mixed down to stereo, and unusual sample rates are converted to 44.1 kHz. Which input formats can be read depends on your browser: if a file is rejected, try another browser such as Chrome or Firefox. Song titles, artist names and cover art from the original file are not copied into the MP3.

How your files stay private

Most online converters upload your file to a server, process it there and send it back. all in tool works differently: the processing code is downloaded to your browser and runs on your own device. Your file is read from your disk into memory, transformed, and handed back to you as a download. It is never sent over the network, so there is nothing for us — or anyone else — to store, read or leak.

You can confirm this yourself: once the page has loaded, you can disconnect from the internet and the tool keeps working. This also means speed depends on your device rather than your connection, which is usually much faster for large files.
