When merging PDFs is useful

Merging is the quickest way to turn a pile of separate documents into one tidy file. Common examples are combining a cover letter, CV and references into a single job application, joining scanned receipts into one expense report, or assembling chapters, appendices and a title page into a finished report.

Many upload forms only accept one file, so merging first saves you from being rejected. A single PDF is also easier for the recipient to read, print and archive than a folder of attachments.

Tips for a clean result

Put files in their final order before merging — the first file becomes the first pages of the new document. Name your source files with numbers (01-cover.pdf, 02-cv.pdf) if you have many of them, so they are easy to arrange.

Pages are copied without being re-rendered, so text stays selectable and images keep their original quality. If the merged file is too large to email, run it through Compress PDF afterwards. If you only need a few pages from one of the documents, use Split PDF first to extract them.

Limitations

Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked before they can be merged. Interactive form fields and digital signatures may not survive merging, because a signature is tied to the exact bytes of the original file. Bookmarks from the source files are not carried over.

How your files stay private

Most online converters upload your file to a server, process it there and send it back. all in tool works differently: the processing code is downloaded to your browser and runs on your own device. Your file is read from your disk into memory, transformed, and handed back to you as a download. It is never sent over the network, so there is nothing for us — or anyone else — to store, read or leak.

You can confirm this yourself: once the page has loaded, you can disconnect from the internet and the tool keeps working. This also means speed depends on your device rather than your connection, which is usually much faster for large files.
