How to use Change Volume

  1. 1Choose an audio file.
  2. 2Move the volume slider and preview.
  3. 3Download the louder or quieter file.

Step by step: making audio louder or quieter

Choose an audio file and move the slider: 100% keeps the original level, lower values make it quieter, and values up to 400% make it louder. Leave Prevent distortion switched on for the cleanest result, choose MP3 or WAV, then click Apply volume and preview before downloading.

What Prevent distortion does

Digital audio has a maximum level. Pushing sound past it 'clips' the peaks, which sounds harsh and crackly. With Prevent distortion on, the tool measures the loudest point of your file and never boosts it past that maximum — so if a recording is already close to full volume, it may not get much louder. Turn it off only if you want maximum loudness and can accept some distortion.

Quality tips and limitations

Boosting volume also boosts background noise and hiss, so very quiet recordings may sound noisy once amplified. This tool changes the whole file by the same amount; it does not even out loud and quiet parts like a compressor or normalizer would. For a recording that is too quiet only in places, trim out the problem section or record again closer to the microphone.

Lowering volume is useful before merging tracks of different loudness, or for softening background music under a voice-over.

How your files stay private

Most online converters upload your file to a server, process it there and send it back. all in tool works differently: the processing code is downloaded to your browser and runs on your own device. Your file is read from your disk into memory, transformed, and handed back to you as a download. It is never sent over the network, so there is nothing for us — or anyone else — to store, read or leak.

You can confirm this yourself: once the page has loaded, you can disconnect from the internet and the tool keeps working. This also means speed depends on your device rather than your connection, which is usually much faster for large files.
